What is covered in the course?

Beginners: This course will provide you with the necessary skills to start teaching confident and effective classes in the chosen discipline for adults with a focus on fitness.

Intermediate: This course will develop on from the basic skills taught at the beginners’ level while adding on the next block of moves in the Spin City syllabus. At this point in your instructor training, we start increasing your knowledge of core concepts such as training lifting, execution and clean movement. We will discuss class planning in the context of progress chains and how you can use combinations and sequences.

Advanced: This course will focus on advanced teaching and coaching skills, while challenging your strength and endurance while exploring more challenging moves and dynamic movement.

What work needs to be completed before the course?

There is a course manual to read and you’ll also need to watch the course videos.  Everything else is covered on the training weekend.

Do I need to be able to perform all of the moves in the course syllabus?

  • No – you don’t need to be able to do all the moves from the course our tutor will recap the technique for each move and explain how to teach them safely.
  • At Intermediate and Advanced level you will need to be able to perform the core moves; these are the compulsory moves required for the technical assessment.  The core moves are listed on our course index page here: Course Index

Is there a certification with the course?

  • All our courses come with a Spin City Certificate and are endorsed by:
    • ACTIVE IQ
    • AFAA – Aerobics and Fitness Association of America
    • NASM – National Academy of Sports Medicine
    • PDC – Pole Dance Community (Pole Fitness and Anatomy & Physiology Courses only).
  • Our courses are recognised by insurers worldwide and your certificate will assist you to obtain public liability and professional indemnity insurance that will cover you for teaching.

Who will I be able to teach with the course certificate?

  • The Spin City courses have been written for adults who are apparently healthy in the general population. With your certificate you can expect your insurers to cover you to teach adults over the age of 18.
  • Insurance companies may require you to hold an additional certification to teach any group that is termed as a ‘special population’, which includes children and young people (under the age of 18), older adults (over the age of 55), pre- and post-natal women and those with disabilities.

Can I attend the course and take my assessment at a later date?

You may be able to carry out your assessment at a later date, within 6 months of your course.

A video submission can be sent in at no additional cost, or a face-to-face assessment may be arranged with an admin fee (to cover venue hire, administration, and the cost of the assessor). Any bookings for such face-to-face assessments must be made at least one month in advance unless we agree otherwise.

What if I don’t pass the assessments?

  • Theory: if you do not pass the theory test, your tutor will give you time to review the unit information and retake the test on the weekend; they may ask supplementary questions as part of the retake. If you are unable to retake the theory test on the course weekend, you will be given a chance to complete it online.
  • Practical: in the event of a ‘referral’ in any of the practical units, you will receive detailed feedback and an action plan that will give clear instructions of what we will need to see for you to achieve a full pass. You may be able to retake the unit over the weekend. If not, you will be handed over to our online assessor and mentor who will provide you with support over email/phone and who will guide you through the reassessment process. You will have up to 6 months to complete your practical re-assessment by video submission.

What are my options if I book a place and then can’t make the course?

  • All private course bookings are non-refundable.
  • In the event of non-attendance you will retain access to the learning materials and have the option to transfer to an online course free of charge or to re-enrol on any future face to face courses at a discounted rate at a future date.
