Course Description

The Spin City Climbs and Descents Instructor Workshop will provide you with a fresh selection of moves to add to your syllabus.  This module of our aerial silks instructor workshop series will start by recapping the foundations of climbing.  We will then provide a variety of descent options before expanding on techniques with progressions of the basics up to challenging inverted climbs that require extra strength, control and stamina.

UNIT 1 – INTRODUCTION TO CLIMBS

This unit will recap basic climbs and descents, followed by a further selection of ways to descend the fabric.

UNIT 2 – CLIMBS AND DESCENTS

Our second unit comprises the main practical elements of the course. We will cover variations on classic climbs, inverted climbs, advanced climbs and a little bonus material on partner climbs. We will explore over 25 moves, each will be detailed with teaching points, safety points, progressions, regressions, and common problems.

UNIT 3 – CLIMBING COMBINATIONS

Climbing can be a hard skill to convert into combinations and choreography. However, many climbs naturally lead into key aerial silks poses – based on the position of the fabric used during the climb.  This unit will provide a set of fixed combinations, as well as a combinations toolbox to inspire your own combinations and freestyle activities.

UNIT 4 – STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING DRILLS

Unit 4 explores a variety of conditioning drills for and with climbing techniques. Drills provided range from beginner-friendly exercises to more challenging techniques to develop your students’ strength and execution.

UNIT 5 – CLIMBING SAFETY

The final unit of the course covers climb-specific health and safety considerations and provides and overview of the health and safety fundamental, covered in our Foundation Silks Instructor Course, including concepts such as public liability insurance and risk assessments.
