Course requirements and pre-requisites
You will need:
- to hold a Spin City Spin City Foundation Aerial Silks Instructor Course certificate, or equivalent certificate
- access to the internet via a PC, laptop, or mobile device
- access to at least 1 set of aerial silks, safely rigged in an appropriate training environment
- a minimum of 2 hours’ study/training time per week (to complete the course within the 1-year deadline)
- a device to film videos on (mobile phones are allowed)
Course units
Hiplock is a fundamental skill within aerial silks; it provides the base for a wide variety of progression moves and combinations, and variations can be achievable from a beginner level. The theory section of this course will explore the fundamentals of a hiplock technique, ensuring a thorough understanding of the skill, including health and safety specific to the hiplock. The practical elements of this course will guide introduce a series of different entries to the hiplock position, along with a range of skills that use it as a base. We will also explore tourniquet and a selection of skills related to it.

Course assessment
This course has two main parts to the assessment; a theory assessment and a practical assessment.
Theory Assessment | Practical Assessment |
Answer theory questions related to each unit of the course. Questions are multiple choice, or short answers. | Part 1: Combination of Moves. Film a continuous combination of 5 moves from the course syllabus. The entry and exit from the moves can count towards the total number – we will be looking for a minimum of three hiplock/tourniquet-specific skills within your video. Part 2: Core Moves Technique and Execution. Film each of the core course moves. |
