The Spin City Teaching Children Ages 5-10 Instructor Course is designed to allow certified pole and aerial instructors to add children’s classes to their studio timetable.
This course will provide you with:
- Essential knowledge on children’s physical and emotional development
- Common injuries and health conditions and how to maintain safe teaching practice.
- How to design and deliver safe and enjoyable classes for children in this age group, with a range of sample lesson plans, exercises and activities.
- How you can promote and sell your classes and sessions to help you make a success of them.
AFAA and NASM members can earn the following Continuing Education Units on completion of this course: AFAA 1.5 CEUs, NASM 1.9 CEUs.
Please note: This course will only certify you to teach children in disciplines that you already hold an instructing or coaching certificate.
Course requirements
You will need:
- To meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years or older.
- A recognised certification in any discipline (pole or aerial) you plan to teach.
- A minimum of 1 years’ pole or aerial instructing experience (recommended).
- Access to the internet via a PC, laptop, or mobile device.
- A stable wi-fi or internet connection.
- Access to an appropriate training environment (no equipment necessary).
- A minimum of 2 hours’ study/training time per week (recommended for online learners to complete the course within the 1-year deadline).
- A device to film videos on (mobile phones are allowed).
- Basic first aid and anatomy knowledge are also recommended.
Course assessment
This course has two main parts to the assessment; a theory assessment and a practical assessment.

| Answer theory questions related to each unit. You can expect a variety of question types: – Single choice/true or false questions – Multiple choice questions – Sorting/ordering questions – Table sorting/matching questions – Fill in the blank questions – Written/open answer questions Open answer questions will be marked by your online assessor and will require a short waiting period for results of 3-5 working days. | Class Introduction. Film an introduction suitable for a children’s class. Warm Up. Film a warm up suitable for a children’s class, lasting 8-12 minutes, including visual and verbal cueing. Class content (written). Describe the content for a class that you would teach to children. You will need enough content for 30-45 minutes of activities. Cool Down. Film a cool down suitable for a children’s class, lasting 5-8 minutes. No participants or equipment will be required for the assessment. Submissions will be marked by your online assessor within 5-7 working days of submission. |
