FULL COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Spin City Foundation Aerial Silks Instructor Course will cover the fundamentals of safe and effective Aerial Silks Instruction. The Spin City Aerial Silks Instructor Training Courses are written in a different format to our other disciplines. Our initial course has been called ‘Foundation’ as we believe these are the ‘core’ skills as an instructor, you should be competent with on aerial silks prior to teaching in this discipline. These are not necessarily all ‘beginners’ skills, but they form the foundations of a solid aerial silks practice. Within the foundation level we will also cover all the relevant educational theory; from class planning to effective coaching techniques and relevant aerial health and safety. Everything you need to make you a safe and effective coach. From this point onwards, each of the additional courses will be ‘skill specific’. They will focus on a specific trick, or movement, and we will look at all the entries, exits, variations, regressions and progressions of that skill.
The focus of this course is twofold; part theory, part practical. Firstly we will give you a range of teaching and coaching techniques to make you a confident and effective instructor. This will be supported by relevant aerial theory including teaching safe progression, correct postural alignment and spotting techniques. We will also cover the practical aspects of running your classes from how to structure your syllabus to the process of writing class plans.
The second phase of this course is highly practical in nature, as we will teach you over 50 beginners aerial silks techniques. You will learn the foundation elements of the Spin City aerial silks syllabus, a series of strength and conditioning techniques to help your students progress and we will complete your practical training with foundation combinations, sequences and choreography. This course will provide you with every aspect you need to starting teaching confident and effective aerial silks classes in your community.
